Tooling Workshop Technician (Mechanical)

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Workshop Technician (Mechanical) to join the Subsea Tooling team within the Operations and Tooling area of the business, based in Aberdeen. You will be an integral member of the production team and will be responsible for the assembly and testing of the Company’s subsea intervention tooling in accordance with the approved drawings, bills of material and procedures.

Who you’ll be working with:

As a Workshop Technician (Mechanical) you will be working within the Subsea Tooling Workshop team and will report directly into the Tooling Workshop Supervisor. You will work alongside the Fugro production team, Technical Manager and stores and logistics.

Here’s what a typical day would be like:

Manufacturing and assembling Fugro designed and developed subsea tools, built to order in line with client requirements

Assessing and overhauling client supplied tooling

Maintaining high quality assembly and testing techniques and output as per technical documentation

Maintaining records of work being performed and providing accurate feedback to the Workshop production team

Undertaking risk assessments and tool box talks prior to commencement of works

Who we’re looking for:


Recognised apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or modern apprenticeship at a minimum of SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)

Experience with Small bore tubing and pressure testing of hydraulic components.

Previous hands on experience working with mechanical and hydraulic systems and schematics

The ability to analyse, fault-find and problem solve hydraulic and mechanical technical engineering problems

Familiar with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)


Experience in the operation of ROV Tooling, ROV systems and robotics

Understanding of electrical/electronic principles

Understanding of subsea control systems
