Sustainability Process Engineer

Our Sustainability Technical team based in Scotland is delivering net zero carbon in the Scotch category operational footprint by 2030 by implementing the carbon reduction programme. Working closely with site operations, global project engineering and business partnering functions, the team is leading and supporting a range of projects to deliver the carbon reduction agenda across 32 distilleries, 4 maltings, 1 bottling hall, maturation and coopering footprint.
About this role – Working with the Scotch Category Sustainability Manager, the Process Engineer will lead the identification and scoping of new opportunities to deliver our carbon reduction programme as well as continually providing technical insights to improve and enhance the performance of existing carbon reduction technology.
You will benchmark internally and externally to identify new insights to unlock performance pushing the boundaries to breakthrough performance, whilst building and sustaining collaborations with the functional team members within the Scotch category (i.e. finance, human resources, risk & governance, procurement) to deliver well-rounded solutions to challenges.
Location – This role is a mixture of home based working and attendance at site to ensure the successful completion of projects. The home location can be either Elgin, or Cameronbridge – likely 2-3 days from home, and 2-3 days on site.
Other key responsibilities for this role will be:
Demonstrating steadfast drive to deliver step change sustainability performance in respect to carbon reduction
Optimisation of new sustainability assets to deliver beyond business case performance
Supporting continuous improvement and problem-solving activities by providing / utilising technical knowledge and experience presented in a logical and codified way.
Coaching team members and customers to improve technical understanding and capability
Encouraging a growth mind-set to problems faced and empowering people to take ownership
Being a role model and champion the use of data and analytics tools and systemic root cause problem solving tools within Scotch category
Identifying need for multi -disciplinary problem-solving teams to address systemic problems
Leading and driving engagement for the implementation of the processes and strategy within Scotch category
Reviewing, creating and proactively using the technical learning curriculums and materials on Diageo Academy and other sources to continuously growing and developing in role and supporting the development of the operational teams
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and ability to communicate to all levels across the plant
Experience in leading and delivering projects within a functional team
Excellent analytical skills with ability to lead and drive improvements
Degree level qualification in chemical engineering
Full Clean driving licence due to the travel requirements in this role
