Some of the duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Must be fully committed to working safely and be responsible for the safe working practices of the crew.
Assist the Master/OIM in identifying jobs which may require a Risk Assessment.
Undertake duties as allocated or directed by the Chief Engineer.
Undertake operational maintenance, planned maintenance and repairs on the mechanical equipment throughout the rig.
Deputise as necessary for the Chief Engineer.
Keep himself informed regarding power consumption and distribution according to requirements and complying with the Permit to Work/Isolation systems.
Notify the Chief Engineer of requirements for spare parts, materials or services.
Carry out mechanical isolations.
Familiarise with machinery and systems, so that in an emergency situation, essential services can safely be restored.
Ensure that ER logs, propulsion logs and maintenance records are completed as required.
Report any defects to the Chief Engineer.
Allocate tasks to Mechanic and provide adequate supervision in order to ensure that all such tasks are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
Responsible and accountable for the safety of the personnel working under their direction and shall be expected to conduct operations at all times in full compliance with company procedures (SMS).
Identify and address any violations of procedures concerning personnel under their direction.
Continuous or repeated violations of policies or procedures should be highlighted and brought to the attention of the HoD/ Master-OIM.
Comply with the Management of Change Principle
Actively participate in accident/incident investigations when required.
Any other duties as required by the Chief Engineer.
Suitable applicants should ideally have:
Preferably Chief Engineer Unlimited however candidates with 2nd Class Motor Certificate of Competency, unlimited STCW ’95 may be considered
Suitable experience as Rig Mechanic on Semi-submersibles units or Drillships.
Suitable experience in position of responsibility on ships or rigs
