Applications are invited for the post of Head of Juniors upon the retirement of a long-serving colleague. This post will offer an exciting leadership opportunity to a dynamic, well-qualified, experienced and forward-looking candidate.
As the Head of Juniors you will become a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), which will also include the Head of School, the Deputy Head (Academic) the Deputy Head (Pastoral) and the Head of Operations and Finance. Reporting to the Head, the Head of Juniors will lead the junior school staff.
Are you the right person for the job?
A strong academic record and degree; registration or eligibility for full registration with the General Teaching Council of Scotland
A strong teaching portfolio together with experience and success in curriculum leadership in a promoted post whilst in a leadership position
An up-to-date knowledge of curriculum, assessment and learning and teaching developments
An up-to-date knowledge and experience in supporting pupil wellbeing
An understanding of the nature of an independent girls’ school and a commitment to meeting the intellectual, personal and social needs of girls from a range of backgrounds and abilities
The ability to work with calmness and good cheer when under pressure; to be capable of discussing issues and ideas constructively and sensitively, and of working loyally as part of a team
Well-developed communication skills both orally and in writing and the ability to relate well to girls and parents individually, in small groups or in larger gatherings
Your role will include but not be limited to
Developing and reviewing junior school policies relating to the curriculum, learning and teaching, tracking, assessment and reporting to ensure that they meet the developing needs of pupils and staff
Responsibility for the day to day safety, well-being and care of junior school pupils
Leading and managing junior school staff, including professional review and development
Building strong relationships with junior school parents, ensuring that they are involved in and informed about their children’s learning, progress and wellbeing
Managing the junior school budget and resources
Overseeing and contributing to the junior school extra-curricular programme
Creating timetables for classroom assistants and lunchtime support staff
Making a significant contribution to the school’s quality assurance, self-evaluation and improvement planning processes
Taking the role of Deputy Child Protection Co-coordinator for the whole school
Contributing to meetings of the School Council with respect to junior school
Contributing to activities relating to admissions and to the marketing and positive promotion of the school
Developing close working relationships with the nursery manager and heads of department to ensure a smooth transition of pupils from nursery school into 1 Junior and pupils from 7 Junior into the senior school
Acting as line manager to the after school care manager with a strong understanding of the requirements of the Care inspectorate, the junior school head will be called upon to support the after school care team on occasions throughout the year
Sharing in SLT cover during school holidays; deputising for the Head as required
